Touching and tapping can all generate sounds within a space. However, what do we hear in a state of stillness?
In the layout of a typical residential floor plan, the sounds spill in from the windows. They demonstrate the temporal relationship between the inside and the outside, while doors and windows serve as mediums, signalling arrivals and departures. This installation, as the first part of "The State of Sounds", separates the sounds into left and right channels, blending sounds from different times, environments, and weathers. What the ears can listen to might be scenes from the same time and space, or it could be thunder and pouring rain mixed with the sounds of passersby, or even a complete silence. Through the sensory element of sound, the installation is placed on the bookshelf next to the door. It reinterprets everyday spaces and allows you to hear your own everyday life. |
